A concert to honor Liao Chien-Yun and celebrate the countless classics of Taiwanese popular music produced in the recording studios of Four Seas Recordswas held at the First Student Activity Center Auditorium in the evening of June 26. Liao founded the Four Seas Records label back in 1955. The NTU Center for the Arts collaborated with Four Seas Records in arranging the show "Songs of Reminiscence--A Celebration Concert for Four Seas Records," featuring performances by singers and musicians from the 1960s to the 1980s, the record company's heyday, as well as a multimedia presentation of the company's history.
Liao, revered as a pioneer of the music industry in Taiwan, passed away in late 2014. In 2012, toward the end of his life, he donated his entireprecious collection of vinyl records, books, and sheet music from his days at Four Seas Records to NTU.
Subsequently, NTU Library and the Graduate Institute of Music cooperated in archiving and making these valuable resources available. Their efforts resulted in the creation of the Collection of Digitized Recordings of Four Seas Recordsas well as the publication of the book "Musical Recollection in Formosa: The Legend of Zhou Lan-Ping and Four Seas Records."
