Towards a Sustainable Future:

NTU Hosts Exchange Forum with Kyoto U & Hamberg U

National Taiwan University (NTU) hosted the Tri-Party Forum, inviting Kyoto University (Japan) and Hamburg University (Germany) to join in discussions on cross-national cooperation for a sustainable future, during November 18-19, 2024. The forum explored its theme of building “Next Generation Partnership Through Multi-Dimensional Cooperation Approaches—Towards a Sustainable Future,” and discussed such topics as renewable energy, environmental studies, social welfare, healthcare management, and disaster prevention. Nearly 100 faculty and students attended the forum.

The forum was officially opened by NTU President Wen-Chang Chen, Kyoto University President Nagahiro Minato, Hamburg University Vice President Jetta Frost, and Kazuyuki Katayama, Representative of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association. In his remarks, President Chen emphasized the importance of cross-cultural and interdisciplinary dialogue, as well as promoting internationally impactful research to realize the shared vision of the three universities for sustainable development and academic excellence. Presidents Minato and Frost then expressed their hope for deepening cooperation to jointly address global challenges.

The panel discussions featured vice presidents from the three universities, focusing on issues of career development across different academic systems. They shared their insights on the differences in the academic systems of Taiwan, Japan, and Germany. Additionally, five scholars shared their international experiences throughout their academic careers and discussed how to support the international development of young scholars.

The group forums were divided into five key topics: renewable energy, environmental studies, social welfare, healthcare management, and flood control and disaster prevention. Scholars from the three universities exchanged their professional insights and international experiences, with the goal of establishing strong academic connections and promoting more diverse future research collaborations.

NTU has long maintained close partnerships with Kyoto University and Hamburg University, engaging in multifaceted and deep cooperation in faculty and student exchanges as well as academic research. This forum marked a new milestone in the long-term collaboration between the three universities and their hopes to further enhance multilateral exchanges and cooperation toward realizing a sustainable future.
